Today the Head of the state Nursultan Nazarbayev has received the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami

At the meeting the parties discussed the results of the work of the courts of the Republic for the first half of 2014, the current activity of the Supreme Court, as well as the challenges ahead.

During the meeting, Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the judiciary system plays a special role in improving public administration addressing its social and economic objectives, the protection of the rights of small-scale and medium-scale businesses and investors, creating optimal conditions for their activities.

The Head of the state also emphasized that from January 1 next year, would be taken effect the new codes. This should lead to more emphasis on the use of economic sanctions against violators and to reduce the prison population.

People's trust to justice depends on the work of the judiciary authorities. In particular, it should improve the operation of specialized economic courts for all disputes resolved fairly in the national judicial system, - said the President of Kazakhstan.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court reported on the work on the development of electronic proceedings, reduce bureaucratic procedures in the judicial activities and measures aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens' rights.

K. Mami told about the administration of justice in the country. During the first half of this year marked increase in the number of applications and cases brought before the courts by 9.5% compared to the same period in 2013. Quality of consideration of civil and criminal cases in the country remains stable. Criminal and administrative cases of violations of the terms are not allowed. In addition, the number of civil cases dealt with the participation of a mediator, has increased from 475 to 1911.

The Chairman of the Supreme Court reported on the preparations for the next IX meeting of the Chairmen of the Supreme Courts of SCO, which will be held in Astana on 4-5 September this year. This event is held every year since 2006, alternately in the different participating countries of SCO. In this meeting as invited guests will attend the General Secretary of SCO D.F.Mezentsev, Executive Director of the Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UN, Jean-Paul Laborde.

At the IX meeting is planned to discuss the issues of improvement and evaluation of the courts, choice and appointment of judges, the openness of justice, the use of information and communication technologies in the proceedings, as well as a number of practical questions in the administration of justice. Within a separate workshop will consider the role of judges of the supreme courts in the fight against terrorism.

Following the meeting, is expected to sign the Joint Statement by the Chairmen of the Supreme Courts of SCO member countries to strengthen cooperation and partnership for the joint promotion of the rule of law and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

At the end of the meeting the Head of the state has given a number of specific instructions on the development of the judicial system of the country.
