In Almaty, judges discussed the matters of criminal prosecution and judicial consideration of cases of terrorist crimes and other transnational nature

Today in Almaty there was a three-day training interregional seminar for judges on: "Practice of criminal prosecution and judicial consideration of cases involving the use of the Internet for the purpose of committing terrorist crimes and other transnational nature". The event is aimed at judges and teachers of the centers for professional development and training of judges of the Central Asia countries and the South Caucasus.

The seminar was organized by the Management of United Nations on Drugs and Crime (MNODC) jointly with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the framework of the MNODC Global Program "Strengthening the capacity of states to prevent and combat serious crimes and transnational crimes".

The chairman of the judicial division for criminal cases of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan Abai Rakhmetulin, the senior legal adviser of the Management of United Nations on Drugs and Crime Olga Zudova, the lawyer of the European Court of Human Rights Dmitry Tretyakov, the prosecutor of the National Prosecutor's Office of the Netherlands Adrianus van Weghel take part in the seminar. In addition, the seminar participants are the chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia, judges of the Supreme Courts of Kazakhstan, Israel, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, as well as a number of international experts.

In his greeting, Abai Rakhmetulin spoke about the specifics of transnational crimes connected with the Internet and the peculiarities of the joint work of states to counter them. He informed about the peculiarities of the Kazakhstan legislation and judicial practice on terrorist crimes connected with the use of the Internet. Presented the latest changes in the judicial system of Kazakhstan in the framework of the implementation of Plan of Nation, it was demonstrated a documentary about changes in the courts and a video about the work of electronic justice.

The representative of the Management of United Nations on Drugs and Crime Olga Zudova will present the main legal instruments and review of UN publications on countering the use of the Internet for terrorist purposes. She spoke about some gaps in national legislation and law enforcement issues.

The participants of the seminar will discuss matters of criminalization of acts related to methods of using the Internet for the purpose of committing terrorist crimes and other transnational nature, obtaining and consolidating evidence concerning the use of the Internet, forensic examinations, obtaining electronic evidence from foreign countries, sharing experience in conducting training courses / advanced training in the field of judicial review of cases of this category.

At the end of the seminar, it is planned to develop appropriate recommendations taking into account the best practices of the participating countries.
