The Almaty city court held a "round table" on the topic: "Prospects for the development of judicial control at the pre-trial stage" within the framework of the Memorandum of mutual cooperation signed earlier with the Almaty city Bar.

The chairman of the Almaty City Court Nurgazy Abdikanov, the chairman of the Criminal Appeal Board Bakhytzhan Karamanov, the judges and lawyers of the region took part in the round table.

Speaking, N. Abdikanov stressed the importance of discussing the issues of judicial control at the pre-trial stage as well as in general the changes in the judicial system aimed at ensuring the rule of law including the protection of human rights in criminal proceedings.

A judge of the Almaty City Court Yerzhan Kenenbaev highlighted the prospects of modernizing the criminal process and improving other aspects of law enforcement. He stressed that, in general, the changes are aimed, in particular, to shorten the period of procedural detention of a suspect in the commission of a criminal offense, the introduction of an electronic criminal case, the improvement of the level of protection of the rights of citizens. It was also said about the further expansion of judicial control, the exclusion from the practice of gathering by law enforcement bodies of evidence beyond the scope of the event under investigation, increasing the adversarial process, simplifying the production of criminal offenses and crimes of minor degree through the introduction of writ proceedings.

The speeches of the representatives of the Almaty City Bar touched upon the problematic issues when examining complaints about the actions of investigators at the pre-trial stage, with the sanctioning of the investigative actions. Attention is paid to the procedure for payment of legal aid rendered by lawyers.

At the end of the event, the round table participants discussed and developed recommendations, as well as proposals for further improvement of work in this direction.
