Strengthening of the justice system for children and protection of their rights in Kazakhstan

In Astana, there was second meeting of the Coordinating Council within the framework of a joint program of the European Union and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) entitled "Strengthening of the justice system for children and protection of their rights in Kazakhstan."

The purpose of the meeting was to support the Government of Kazakhstan in the establishment of a comprehensive friendly area for children, according to international standards.

The judge of the Supreme Court G.Ak-Kuova, chairman of the specialized inter-district juvenile court of Astana city N.Razzak, Majilis deputy S.Bychkova, representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Committee on child Protection Ministry of Education and Science, local executive bodies, as well as representatives of embassies, international organizations and NGOs took part in the Coordinating Council.

The chairman of juvenile court of Astana city N.Razzak acted as the moderator of the meeting.

Implementation of the Concept of juvenile justice system development in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2009-2011, creating a friendly juvenile justice in the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as enhancing the capacity of law enforcement and judicial authorities are the main achievements in the implementation of the joint program.

In the course of the meeting they discussed issues on development of friendly environment to the child in court and piloting probation service for children in conflict with the law.

At the end of the meeting the parties exchanged information on the plans of technical cooperation of international organizations with state bodies and public organizations on justice with respect to children.
