The meeting of Chairmen of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states was held in Uzbekistan

The Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan Kairat Mami took part in the XII Meeting of the Chairmen of the Supreme Courts of the SCO member states in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The event was also attended by the Chairmen of the Supreme Courts and judges from Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan as well as by the Deputy Secretary General of the SCO S.Imandossov.

The delegation of Kazakhstan included the Chairman of the specialized judicial board of the Supreme Court A. Kydyrbayeva, the chairman of the South Kazakhstan Regional Court T. Baratbekov, the judge of the highest judicial body of the country E. Aripov as well as a number of senior officials of the Department for ensuring the activities of the courts under the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan.

In his welcoming speech K. Mami noted that adequate legal support and rapid response of member countries to common threats are required for the sustainable development and prosperity of the SCO. The parties should be confident in their partners and know that any issues and threats can be solved in the legal field using a single approach.

The meetings at the level of Heads of the highest judicial bodies of the SCO countries are of special practical importance. "The demand for interaction of judicial systems as one of the components of the SCO is especially emphasized by the final documents of the meetings. They attach the importance to the exchange the experience in the judicial sphere and determine the tasks for deepening close cooperation based on mutual trust, equality, respect for the diversity of cultures and the desire for common development" the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan emphasized.

K.Mami also drew attention to the wide representation of the meeting and welcomed the new members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization from the South Asian region. "This is one more indicator of the authority of the SCO. The accession of new members opens prospects for joint development of new horizons and strengthening of security and stability in the world" he said.

The agenda of the XIIth Meeting includes issues on measures for further reformation of the judicial and legal system, improvement of the institutional mechanisms for protecting investment and legislation in the field of investment disputes in the SCO member states. In addition, the sides discussed the issues of increasing the effectiveness of cooperation among SCO member states in the provision of legal assistance in civil and criminal matters, the practice of counteracting the recruitment and recruitment of the younger generation into the activities of various terrorist and radical structures. A speaker from Kazakhstan delivered speech on each topic.

In his main report "On measures of further reformation of the judicial and legal system in the SCO member states" K. Mami spoke about the judicial reforms implemented within the framework of the Nation Plan at the session. The main emphasis was placed on five priorities: the institutional strengthening of courts, reformation of the personnel policy of courts, the development of "e-justice", the improvement of civil procedural law and the modernization of criminal legislation.

Following the meeting a Joint Statement which includes the main results of the discussion on all issues on the agenda was adopted. A decision to hold the next XIII Meeting of Chairmen of the Supreme Courts of the SCO Member States in the People's Republic of China in 2018 was made.
