The jury trial - the possibility of administration of justice by the people

Today, on the initiative of the South Kazakhstan regional court, a scientific and practical conference was held on the basis of a specialized inter-district criminal court, timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the institution of the jury trial in the country on: "The jury is a democratic basis in the administration of justice."

The chairman of the South Kazakhstan regional court N.Sharipov, the chairman of the Judicial division for Criminal Cases and the judges of the Regional and Specialized Criminal Court, the leadership of the regional prosecutor's office, the Department of Internal Affairs, representatives of the regional akimat and the bar association as well as MASS MEDIA took part in the conference. As guests invited to participate in the conference took the scientific figures, doctors and candidates of science of the Academic Innovation University, the University of Friendship of Peoples of Kazakhstan, Shymkent College of New Technologies and jurors.

More than 50 students and undergraduates of law faculties of local universities are invited to the conference.

Opening the conference, and emphasizing the importance and relevance of the functioning of the institution of jury in the republic, Sharipov emphasized: "An integral element of democracy in the state is people's participation in the administration of justice, which confirms the existence of a mechanism for protecting human rights, freedoms and legitimate interests. This phenomenon is reflected in the institution of the jury, which is the bulwark of true democracy and the most important component of the rule of law, enshrined in the Law on Jurors on January 16, 2006, and since 2007 the institution of jurors has shown its viability.

The judges of the specialized inter-district criminal court, representatives of the prosecutor's office, akimat, and scientific figures made reports. Also the opinions of jurors who directly participated in the consideration of criminal cases, who realized the complexity and tremendous responsibility of the jury in issuing a verdict and deciding the fate of people were heard.

At the end of the conference, there was a constructive exchange of views between practitioners and theorists and proposals were made on improving the legislation, eliminating problematic issues, both in the selection of jurors and in dealing with cases involving them.
